I recently realised that I hadn’t posted on YouTube in over a year and this really was surprising to me until I realised why I had been avoiding making content.
When I first started making YouTube videos, my content was mostly haul videos. Whilst I do enjoy fashion and having a variety of nice things, I have been feeling overwhelmed for a while now by the amount of things that I have accumulated over the years.
Social media has normalised overconsumption and with the rise of social media such as TikTok, there seems to be constant pressure to buy more and more stuff.
I have decided to really challenge myself and be more intentional with regards to what I want to share on YouTube as well as on this blog and my other social media going forward; I am quitting shopping and embarking on a no buy year. My hope is that this will be for more than just a year. For me, quitting shopping isn’t just about breaking a habit, but rather a way to fully embrace a simple, fulfilling life.
